Assuming the worst case

Aassuming the worst case is a good "mental model". A girl who says that she just wants to be friends could be interpreted as her saying "your bloodline does not deserve to continue on this earth". This might be a bad example because in some cases, this is the literal meaning of the statement. Assuming the worst case can prevent dangerous situations which are likely to compound in the future.
