On Learning By Example

Learning primarily by example is probably the most torturous method of learning which stunts growth, wastes time, and adds unnecessary stress. People do not realize this, people are not concerned with this.

Learning the general case should always be the norm as it promotes the deepest thinking and discards example-specific problems which may arise. I find that in CS education, too many scenario specific problems are thrown at you. It is expected of you to think about how you would handle the general case. This is not ideal as a learner trying to put in the least input for the most output. The high ROI learner.

Maths teaches the general case (the good courses at least).
